Why this question matters

Campaign statistics are useful when the agent can explain what they mean for your property. A large number of views is different from serious buyer interest, and a small number of comments may not represent the market. Ask how feedback will be collected, summarised and compared with the original strategy before you discuss a change in price, method or spending.

What to ask the agent for

The frequency and format of vendor reports, buyer feedback, online engagement, open-home numbers and the trigger for reviewing price or method.

Ask to see an anonymised example of a vendor report. Then ask how the agent would respond if the property attracted online views but few viewings, or viewings without offers. The explanation should connect evidence to a specific next action.

What a strong answer should include

Uses evidence and pre-agreed review points, not ad-hoc pressure.

What to write down or compare

  • Frequency, format and named owner of the vendor report.
  • Enquiries, viewings, repeat interest, buyer objections and offers, with context.
  • Pre-agreed review dates and the evidence needed to support a proposed change.

Relevant NZ seller considerations

Put reporting expectations and any spending approval process in writing. There is no universal number of online views or open-home visitors that proves a New Zealand property must change its asking price.

Video transcript

Selling your home can feel stressful when you do not know what is happening. So before you sign ask, how will you keep me informed throughout the campaign? Ask how often you will receive updates, what information will be included and whether feedback will come directly from the agent or through someone else on the team. Ask how buyer comments, open home activity, online inquiry and offers will be reported and what happens if the campaign is not performing as expected. A strong answer gives you a clear communication routine, not just a promise that they will keep in touch. You should know when you will hear from them, what you will be told and who is responsible for giving you the update. Compare each agent's communication plan side by side.
