Why this question matters

A team can offer useful capacity, but the seller still needs clear accountability. Find out which tasks the listing agent will do personally and which will be delegated. Ask how information moves between the people showing the property, following up buyers and discussing offers with you. Judge the proposed arrangement by its clarity and suitability for your needs.

What to ask the agent for

The name and role of the day-to-day contact, who runs open homes, follows buyers and negotiates, and the communication schedule.

Ask who you would call about an urgent offer or a missed campaign task. A clear answer should identify a person and a process instead of relying on a general promise that the team will handle it.

What a strong answer should include

Clear accountability, response times and a named backup if the main contact is unavailable.

What to write down or compare

  • Named lead contact, day-to-day contact and backup, with their responsibilities.
  • Who hosts viewings, follows up enquiries, reports feedback and leads negotiations.
  • Preferred contact method, agreed response expectations and cover during absence.

Relevant NZ seller considerations

The agency agreement is with the real estate agency. Ask the agency to explain how its team will deliver the promised services, and verify relevant licence details before making your choice.

The person who wins your listing is not always the person who handles the day to day sale, so before you sign, ask. Who will actually manage my property after today? Who runs the open homes? Who follows up buyers? Who gives me feedback? Who negotiates the offers? And who do I call when I need an answer? Real estate professionals are expected to communicate regularly in a timely way and keep their client informed. A strong answer gives you names, responsibilities and a clear communication schedule, not just our team will look after you. Write down exactly who is accountable for what.
